Becca's Drawing

So here it is! Click the image to view it larger. In the scene, Baltrice and Jace are in the the village of Kamigawa, which is located in a jungle swamp. Baltrice is meant to have flames in her hands and eyes - she is holding a ball of fire in her right hand, and in her left the flames are dying out a bit because it is raining. Let me know what you think is working/not working/missing, etc!

  1. Looking good! Some things to be nit-picky, since that's what we're here for. I want more fire! I think that magical fire would be pretty much unaffected by rain...at least if I had the power of fire casting, it wouldn't be affected by the rain. But seriously, i think that the fire is an important part to the main character and it should be played with and emphasized. Another small bit is that I would like to see that Jace's cloak looks more like a cloak and not like a hoodie. Maybe make the back part coming out behind Baltrice so we can see it extends. also, maybe some patteren or design elements could be added to it to make it a little less plain. gotta think about the characters as people and the little deatails in costume make us believe the scene that much more. Maybe he and/or she has some kind of bag or pouch or jewelry. Anyhow, background looks great. Can't wait to see it all misty and stuff. Super Duper!

  2. Love the contrast in expressions between Jace and Baltrice. Jace is such a warrior, there's a lot of power in the expression. Baltrice is the worrier, feeling more fear. The emotion of the characters is really coming through strongly!

  3. I think the drawing is looking pretty good. The only thing I can think of is to use the clothing to emphasize the fact that it is raining. Whenever I get caught in the rain and my clothes get wet they stick to my body. Maybe if part of Jace's hood was stuck to his face or if you could see his arm under the cloak it might emphasize that point.

Keep up the good work can't wait to see the final product.

  4. wonderful drawing Becca! i agree with Scott on both the fire and the hoodie. the hoodie could be either aged, or have an accent around the opening. also to change Jace's stance would chance the look of a hoodie, by not having an arm down in front but out in surprise much as Baltrice character does. stance can change almost anything in a characters reactionary setting, especially in which there seems to be something catching their attention! love you guys, your all amazing artist, i will follow closely.

  5. yeah so i think all has been said by scott. i think maybe even a bit of fire on the huts in the back might also help. she needs to look as ominous as possible so big flames are key. maybe a cool necklace could add to her costume, and a well designed cloak to jace will really make this piece great.
