Craig's Viking Thumbnail

After talking with everyone and getting their comments I wanted to push my thumbnail farther. I wanted more going on in the picture and more fantasy elements. I'm going for a drawing and painting that hopefully are more challenging for me. The scene is more dramatic but the viking is more subdued. A young man having a vision high on a hill as Valkyries ride an oncoming storm.

  1. I love it!!! I like that he's not yet a viking, but an aspiring one, lots of narrative thoughts come to mind when looking at it. And it's still pretty epic. Just make sure there's no weird tangents behind him with the valkyries (but I know this is just a thumbnail, so just be aware when you go to final drawing!)... also I kinda want him to have longer hair. :> No beard yet! But... a little longer hair would be nice. I dunno, just my preference! Oooh and make sure there's a nice juxtaposition between his peasant garb and woodsman axe and the glittery metal goodness of the valkyries!

  2. Hmm... I almost wish something at the same distance as the aspiring viking was overlapping with the valkyries, because right now they kinda look like tiny horses floating above his head. It could just be that its a thumbnail and not a painting though, because they can look more distant and huge with some atmospheric effects, just wondering if there's an additional way to show it... if there's some overlap with his head in front of the horse legs, or if theres some kind of tree branch... hmmm

  3. Great idea Lis! They will be atmospheric but I'll also work with the trees in the background and get them layering with the Valkyries. And, yes I'll be careful with tangents. Once they're in the final drawing they'll be easy enough to tweak one direction or another.

  4. yeah this is awesome craig. i agree with the long hair, he looks a bit roman right now. but i think this is gonna be sweet, it's kinda like that bougereau painting of a man staring up at all these women floating into the sky. can't think of the name of the painting...

  5. Another thought - also might be nice to have him with his eyes closed
