Owen's Viking Thumbs

After a lot of different ideas, I felt I needed to do a piece based on existing mythology.  I'm really excited about the last thumbnail; it's based on one of the events in Ragnarok, the Norse armageddon.  At one point, Odin's giant wolf, Fenrir, swallows Odin whole.  Later, Odin's son cuts the wolf open and Odin is set free.  So I want to show Odin being gobbled up by Fenrir, while Valhalla is on fire in the background.  I'm pretty sure I want to do the one on the far top right, but I did a horizontal version on the bottom right also.

  1. Wow, your idea sounds like an intense, really different image Owen. Is Fenrir going to be *about* to eat him looking really vicious and intense or is he literally half done eating him? Do I see one where Odin is still fighting while going down? That could be very cool. But I've got to say I like the sea serpent fight in the upper left too. Could the Fenrir/Odin battle somehow be a little like that? With Odin partially in his mouth? And, definitely, burn down Valhalla!

  2. he would be have in fenrir's mouth, hand pushing on the snout and reaching for his spear which is just out of his grasp.

  3. Epiiiiiccc. Maybe take the far top right and bottom right and flesh those out a bit more. Love the idea, I just think you should play more with the composition. Maybe more overlapping over the figures over the background... make the figures bigger, maybe even crop some of the giant wolf off the page. They just seem a little far away, and thus Odin will be too small. I want to see more of him!

  4. yeah these were a bit hard for me to read. mostly because they are kinda small images, but also it's a little hard for me to tell what's going on in the one of odin being eaten by fenrir. I think Lis is right, you should flesh that one out a bit more and explore the vantage point possibilities to make it a bit more dynamic. It sounds like a cool idea though! I want to see a real struggle in there!
