A quick thumbnail

So here's a small sketch for the painting I'd like to do. It's a bit more book cover-y. Been super busy lately with game related NDA's so I want to make sure I am still getting in some sample work for the book cover market. The things behind her are birds....should I do crows or doves?? haha i can't quite decide since they're pretty opposite symbolically. Any preferences?

  1. HUMMING BIRDS! No I don't know I kinda like the whole opposites attract thing, so if her outfit is white then do crows, if her outfit is colored do doves. but i can't tell if there is a certain mood you are going for, that also depends. Otherwise I think it looks good. It looks like a book cover.

  2. Why does it have to be doves and crows? Why not sparrows or starlings? and why just one kind of bird? It can be multiple! :D

  3. SWANS! Yeah, I don't know, what owen said... maybe decide what the mood of the piece is going to be first. I don't have a preference as to what birds you go with, but I'd probably stick with a flock of the same type of bird, but that's just me. My only advice would be to make sure that you don't space the birds too evenly when you start to draw it. I know they fly in formations, but make sure they don't line up toooo much, and aren't all the same size. When I first saw it, I thought it was a jet plane formation flying over her (especially that top left corner)! Otherwise, lookin really good!
