Craig's Unicorn Color Sketch

I have my copy mounted on board. I wanted to see my color idea before I dove in to paint. The first idea is very straightforward white sunlight and blue skies with shadows falling into grey-purples. The atmospheric perspective will just be a fade into pale blue. Pinks on the girl and gold-yellow on the horn and hair will bring attention there. Right now the sea needs a little more brightness and glitter. Maybe too tame? Try storm filled sky or deep golden light?

P.S. I'm on the header! Thanks, header maker person.

  1. I really like these colors! I kind of don't want to see any other various because I like these so much... hahaha. Very calm, cool... makes me think of fantasia. I guess just make sure the atmospheric separation between foreground and background is really definite!!! And maybe make the pinks/yellows of girl and horn a little more saturated. Can't wait to see it!

  2. Craig this looks great! Love the colors! I agree with Lis's comments, and also there's something different in your sketch that I liked - in your initial sketch, the forest was more closed and a bit darker - you couldn't see so much sky behind them. I kinda like that - it added a bit more mystery. This feels very open and airy, which is also nice, so I guess it mostly depends on which way you want to go with it. Either way, I would like to see those leaves dropped down a bit behind the unicorn, at least in a couple of spots, to add some more variation and contrast. Does that make sense? Anyhow, this is awesome and I can't wait to see it in paint!
