So this is the final drawing for the Agents of Artifice piece. I guess it's pretty straight forward. It will start looking a lot cooler once the painting aspect is started.
I would love to see more gears and chains and inner-workings of the tentacles. Right now they look a bit like bare scaffolding - I want to get a better sense of how they might be functioning. Plus it'd look really cool!
The flame and smoke from the dragon that has filled in around the tentacles could look good, just be sure it doesn't look like clouds. It should be dark, belching, angry, firey smoke. You might even throw some more tentacles in there, or maybe another part of the creature looming up through the smoke in the center of the painting. Right now, your main action is pushed to the far left corner, and the space leading across your painting to that action could do with some filling in. The design of the dragon looks good! Maybe its leg could be gripping at that tentacle to add an even stronger feeling of struggle and tension!
I agree with Becca, as I said before. I think that the tentacles would benefit from some form of inner control mechanisms. Just something to give us the idea that they are mechanical arms being controlled and not just radio tower flapping around. It would also be nice to have a little bit of the flame and smoke coming through the main tentacle so that it gets a little obscured. Not a lot but just enough to fade it out a teeny bit and break up the curvy line between the top left and the bottom right corners. Good stuff!
We are five illustrators on a mission to create lots of good art, and to invite lots of feedback, so that we can create even better art! We will regularly post assignments, then post our progress and critique each other - and you can critique us too! We love feedback! Our names are Scott Murphy, Owen Weber, Rebecca Solow, Elisabeth Alba, and Craig Maher.
