1 - Make the axe bigger (he's a badass skeleton, he needs a badass weapon... this looks like it could barely chop wood).
2 - his pipe kind of disappears with all that armor behind it... it would be great if you could bring it up so that it has negative space around it and the hand, it would be more visible. Also you could make the smoke more pronounced (coming out of his mouth too)
3 - More movement in his body - the cape could be billowing back slightly (it looks limp right now, even if its heavy fur). his waist looks a little too thick with the armor, he's kind of barrel shaped. maybe just make his waist a bit thinner. possibly part his legs more. His hands could be bigger, even though he's a skeleton... just to make him stronger and more fearsome
4 - I can't tell what that rock/cloak thing in the middleground is, but it might just be because its not painted yet.
I love the ruined castle in the background!!! and I can see where you are going with the atmospheric layering or hills, it's gonna look awesome! I can't wait to see it finished. Definitely a great character piece.
We are five illustrators on a mission to create lots of good art, and to invite lots of feedback, so that we can create even better art! We will regularly post assignments, then post our progress and critique each other - and you can critique us too! We love feedback! Our names are Scott Murphy, Owen Weber, Rebecca Solow, Elisabeth Alba, and Craig Maher.
This is going to be a great piece - I just have a few minor comments that I think would make it more effective all around.
