Well, I decided to just draw some characters, and not try to do a whole scene. I agree with Owen's comment (below) about working in pencil being freeing. It is easier to take risks when working in pencil, it is quick, and when time is short (like most days in nyc) being able to play out an experimental idea quickly is exciting and invaluable. So these witches are straight from my imagination, and were loads of fun. I'll definitely be wanting to do more drawing-type challenges!
These are so crazy, you have such a wild way of stylizing stuff. I could really see those characters in like a Roald Dahl story, maybe like the aunts from James and the Giant Peach. It would almost be a shame to keep these black and white, I think they deserved to get colored...with wild pinks and purples. Yeah, pinks and purples.
ReplyDeleteYeah these are soo much fun! I really love them!! Especially the top one. For some reason I picture her pointing to a chalkboard with her stick explaining the proper technique for cooking children (with corresponding chalk diagrams of course!). The weird chop-top mullet on the bottom one gives me the total creeps...awesome. One thing that bugs me a little on the bottom one is her feet being cranked out to perfect right angles..a little awkward. Otherwise, they're super cool! I want to see them painted too. Pinks and purples (and green skin!) will do just fine.
