Witch's Brew

Well i finally managed to squeeze this one in! I totally winged it and kinda went with the first idea that came into my head...and i'm pretty happy with it! I decided for the sake of time and good ol' memories i'd break out the charcoal. I forgot how fun it is to push and pull the lights and darks with charcoal...not to mention how much faster it can be! I think I'd definitely like to make this one into a painting at some point in the near future....perhaps a witch-paint challenge! Anyways, it's late...... to bed!

  1. Fucking sweet bro!! I particularly like how you very efficiently sketched the ghosts or spirits surrounding it - you really create a mood with that with minimal detail. Also the witch's hands and the hands coming out of the pot are pretty awesome.

  2. Yeah, what Alex said! The ghosties are great, and the witch is insanely creepy. Seeing how nicely this charcoal piece came out makes me wonder whether you might start using charcoal instead of pencil for your preliminary drawings (for paintings) sometimes. I do kind of wish that there was something going on between her hands. There is so much tension in the way the hands are relating to each other, and in the fingers, but then all the smoke/steam/ghostie things are going off to the left... just having of the smoke stuff come up between her hands a bit might make it work. Whatever you do, it's a freaking awesome drawing, and you should definitely paint it.

  3. Thanks guys! Yeah I had a lot of fun sketching this one out last night. I agree about the hands, Becca, now that you mention it...hmm i'll have to think about that one.

  5. what is going on with that face? i don't think it makes any sense, but witches don't so it's fine. i can't tell whether the eyes are necessary... i think it could go either way, i just can't tell if she's wearing a hood or not. are they eye holes? but yeah good use of medium, this piece needed atmosphere and i think charcoal worked well to accomplish that.
