Hey dudes, so this is my next piece. Two kids huntin' dragons. One is distracting, the other is sneaking up behind. I'm having trouble deciding which direction the image should go in, so here is the sketch in both directions! Also, if you see anything else worth noting before I start on the final drawing....
It was originally in this direction, which I think I still prefer...
but maybe it should be like this?

i loooove this, and I think the top one is better. I think maybe you could bring the wing down just a speck more but otherwise awesome. The shadowed areas and the sunlit areas are working perfectly, this thing is gonna really pop.
ReplyDeleteI like http://www.elisa-alba.com/blogfiles/thedistractionleft.jpg because your eye reads left to right. ermmm at least mine does :P Nicely done Lis!
ReplyDeleteThanks dudes! Ryan, that's a good point... and makes total sense. You see the girl first, then the dragon... then the kid about the strike. Yay! I'm glad you both liked the first one haha
ReplyDeleteYay! This is gonna be awesome! Have you seen "How to Train Your Dragon" yet?? Because if you haven't, you MUST! Especially since you're doing this painting. I think either direction of the composition works. I'm going to be the odd one out and say that I actually like the second (bottom) one - My eye reads left to right on that one most easily - in both, I am drawn to the large dark area first, and the bottom one feels more comfortable to me. But that said, do whichever one you like best, because they both work :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the first one. Your initial instinct is the way to go.
