Here's a quick color comp I did last night for the witch painting. I also played with adding the skull on a pike between her hands to deal with the tension issue that Becca had mentioned. Does it work any better? Any opinions on the colors? I want to keep it fairly unified, with her skin being the one of the few non-brown/reddish orange things. I'd like it to be more of a dull deathly purple of sorts.

Well, I got to see this and talk to you last night, but I'll just reiterate... I really like that you've added something between her hands, but I think it should be smaller/floating/glowing or made of smoke. My favorite part of this is still all the ghostie spirits swirling above the witch. Your color choices are good. A limited palette is very appropriate here. I'd like to see a bit more patterning (is that the word I'm looking for?) with the light coming from the cauldron... like the hands would be more brightly lit than the face, the face brighter than the bird, etc. The way you use your highlights could have a big impact in a piece like this. Just some thoughts, this looks really great!!
