Here's my final for the witch project. It was fun to throw this piece together. Most of it is made up from my head...i had some reference for the lighting kind of, and the bird, but pretty much just winged it the rest of the way. It was a nice difference from my usual extensive reference taking and gathering, and instead of just copying I was painting and playing. Is it my best piece ever? probably not, but it sure was a fun little image to make, and gave me a bit more confidence to be more loose with my reference taking and adherence to the exactness of my photos. Looking forward to see the others!

Nice one Scott! I loooove that you let loose and played, and that looseness definitely comes through in your painting. Great job with the flying ghosties, and I love that blue rim lighting. I can't think of anything I'd change about this :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Becca on the fact that it looks more playful and less reliant on reference, which is refreshing. I'm not sure if it's the computer or what but the fire looks too saturated, it just looks too orange in my opinion. Also I think the background is unnecessary, I think there should either be nothing there, or something more organic. A window and shelves just look out of place in this scenario. If you wanted to keep skulls in there, then I think maybe it would look better if they were hanging, or just less organized.
